Overview

Powered by the QuTS Hero operating system, the TS-h886 8-Bay NAS Enclosure from QNAP delivers exceptional performance for your business as it grows its network storage capacity. Built with quadruple 2.5GbE connectivity, a 2.6 GHz Intel Xeon D-1622 Quad-Core processor, and 16GB of DDR4 ECC memory that's expandable to 128GB, this NAS is designed to deliver fast and reliable data transfers for high workloads. The TS-h886 includes six 3.5" and two 2.5" SATA III drive bays, supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60 with triple parity and triple mirror configurations. Up to two M.2 22110/2280 NVMe PCIe Gen 3 solid-state cache drives can be installed to further boost performance for data-intensive applications.

You can boost performance even further with the two available PCIe 3.0 x8 expansion slots to install expansions such as 40GbE network cards, M.2 storage adapter cards, QXP SATA expansion cards for JBOD enclosures, entry level graphics cards, and more. Three 5 Gb/s USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports are also available for connecting peripherals such as storage drives and printers that can be shared across the network.

This desktop NAS supports up to 10,000 concurrent connections and ensures data integrity with support for block-level inline data deduplication and compression, near-limitless snapshots, and real-time SnapSync. Additionally, the 128-bit ZFS file system provides flexible storage management, comprehensive data protection, and optimized performance that helps to streamline tasks such as file serving, backups, virtualization, and collaborative media workflows. The TS-h886 is compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux, and Unix operating systems.

The TS-h886 uses a 2.6 GHz Intel Xeon D-1622 Quad-Core processor and 16GB of DDR4 ECC memory that can detect and correct single-bit memory errors as they occur to prevent downtime and data loss. Supporting up to 128GB RAM to cope with higher workloads, the TS-h886 provides a high-performance and reliable NAS solution for demanding business IT environments. When using four 2.5GbE ports, the TS-h886 can achieve download speeds of up to 1032 MB/s and upload speeds of up to 1089 MB/s. When connected using dual 10GbE ports, the TS-h886 can deliver download speeds of up to 1918 MB/s and upload speeds of up to 1307 MB/s.

Tiered Storage Configuration for a QuTS hero NAS

Basic requirements for setup are similar to QTS. We recommend you to follow these steps to acquire optimal storage efficiency and performance for QuTS hero.

Step 1: System Drive & Default Shared Folders
The first Storage Pool you create is where the system drive, default shared folders, and apps are stored. In this step, it is recommended to create an SSD RAID with at least two SSDs to attain optimal system performance and efficient app metadata management. With an all-HDD configuration, the first Storage Pool is also where the system drive and default shared folders are stored.

Step 2: Read Cache & ZIL
Use more SSDs for read cache or ZIL. You can also install QM2 expansion cards to add M.2 SSDs for expanding cache space.

Step 3: Data Storage
Allocate HDDs/SSDs to create a RAID for storing files and application data. If needed, you can configure an all-flash configuration for optimal performance.

Inline Data Deduplication, Compression, and Compaction Drives Big data Storage Efficiency

QuTS hero supports advanced block-based data reduction technologies, including inline data deduplication, compression, and compaction to reduce file sizes, conserve storage capacity, and optimize performance. For example, if 20 virtual machines on a NAS are replicated using the same template, then storage space requirements for all 20 virtual machines can be reduced by up to 95%. Whether acting as primary or backup storage, the TS-h886 optimizes storage utilization to provide a reliable storage cornerstone in the Big Data era.

Real-Time SnapSync Ensures Minimal RPO with Real-Time Disaster Recovery

Real-time SnapSync ensures that both the primary and secondary NAS maintain identical data. When data is written to the source, it is immediately written to the destination. If the primary NAS goes offline, IT staff can simply adjust the privilege settings of the secondary NAS to ensure continuous operations. SnapSync provides the strongest support for nonstop business operations and helps users to reduce the risk of data loss. VJBOD Cloud supports streamlined NAS backup to object cloud storage. The block-based data transmission uploads random data and large files to the cloud in blocks and only transmits block-based volume or LUN changes, such as addition, modification, or deletion. Switch Operating Systems to Upgrade Current Storage

The TS-h886 can also switch to using QTS - QNAP's standard NAS operating system. This allows you to migrate drives from your current QTS-based NAS to the more powerful TS-h886 to upgrade your storage infrastructure.

Note: QTS and QuTS hero use different file systems. You must remove all the drives from the TS-h886 before switching from QuTS hero to QTS.
